A New Nation 


Putting the "NEW" U.S. Constitution to work wont be as easy as some might think...

Executive branch Article II of the U.S. Constitution calls for the election of a leader.

George Washington is unanimously elected by those who could vote.
John Adams came in second place making him the first Vice President of the U.S. 

**As first president, Washington will face many difficulties a war debt, setting up programs to assist in governing, choosing supreme court justices (Judiciary Act of 1789).

**How Washington governs will set precedents for the future of the United States.

Secretary of Defense: Henry Knox
Secretary of State: Thomas Jefferson
Secretary of Treasure: Alexander Hamilton
Attorney General: Edmund Randolph

Financial Problems
-one of the first issues that Washington will deal with.
-chooses economic expert Alexander Hamilton to be the first Secretary of Treasure

***Hamilton's Financial Plan***
-Pay off war debt
-Federal taxes
-Protective Tariffs
-Industrialized economy

Hamilton's Plan will spark great controversy!
